German envoy calls on Rly Minister

German Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Fahrenholtz paid a courtesy call on Railway Minister Mohammad Nurul Islam Sujan at his office at Railway House here on Thursday.
During the meeting, the German Envoy expressed interest in constructing a new railway line from Navaran in Jessore to Satkhira saying that Germany is interested in investing in Bangladesh Railway in various fields, said a press release.
Highlighting the current position of the railways, the Railway Minister said that the present government has given utmost importance to the railway sector.
He said many projects are underway in the railways, adding that a new railway line is being constructed up to Cox’s Bazar, besides construction of Padma Bridge rail link and Bangabandhu Railway Bridge over the Jamuna River.
The Railway Minister further said initiatives have been taken to bring districts across the country under the railway network.
The Railway Minister called upon the German Ambassador to invest in Bangladesh Railways using German high technology and to provide Bangladeshi officers with latest training on technology and other necessary fields in Germany.
In response to the request, the ambassador assured that he would consider the issue of training including investment and convey it to their government.
Satkhira-2 MP Mir Mostaq Ahmed Robi, Secretary to the Ministry of Railways Mohammad Selim Reza, Director General of Bangladesh Railway Dhirendra Nath Majumder and others were present during the meeting.
