Gender roadmap approved to ensure women empowerment

Aiming to build gender awareness in the workplace, take effective steps to prevent gender-based violence and ensure women empowerment, Department of Factory and Establishment Inspection (DFEI) has prepared and approved gender roadmap.
“The gender roadmap was given final approval on Sunday through a virtual conference,” Inspector General of the Department Shivnath Roy told media.
He said the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) readymade garment project provided technical assistance in preparation of the roadmap.
The meeting was attended, among others, by ILO Country Director Tuomo Poutiainen, Labor and joint secretary of labour and employment ministry Jahanara Begum, Joint Inspectors General of DFEI Engineer Farid Ahmad and Dr Md Mustafizur Rahman and officials concerned. Roy said the Department of Factory and Establishment Inspection started its work to ensure good behavior with women, occupational health and safety, equal pay for men and women, maternity benefits, childcare, etc as a responsible organisation. Meanwhile, various trainings were provided to officials and employees in various levels from different factories, departments, agencies and the ministry of labour to create gender awareness. Deputy Inspector General Md Matiur Rahman gave a detailed picture of the Gender Roadmap saying that with the implementation of the roadmap, sustainable development will be achieved easily at the workplace.
