Entertainment Report :
A platform for lyricists, Geetikobi Songho was formed amid the coronavirus pandemic in order to champion the largely overlooked rights of the lyricists across the country.
After only one month of its formation, on August 23, the Geetikobi Songho submitted a letter urging to amend the Copyright Law to the Bangladesh Copyright Office, which falls under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
A four-member delegation of the Geetikobi Songho coordinating committee, including noted lyricists of the country Hasan Matiur Rahman, Asif Iqbal, Kabir Bakul and Zulfiqer Russell met with the Copyright Registrar Zafar Raja Chowdhury last Sunday.
The representative group addressed Geetikobi’s organisational stance with regard to its advocacy of lyricists’ rights, the instability and disarray prevalent in today’s music industry, the long-standing suffering of lyricists all over the country among other urgent issues.
The Geetikobi Songho put forth ten proposals to the Copyright Office, arguing that the music scene would retain its sense of order and harmony once the amended laws reflect the organisation’s ‘timely’ demands that particularly place stress on artistes’ moral and financial rights.
It is mentioned that Geetikobi Songho, Bangladesh was formed on July 24 after several meetings among lyricists of all ages on the internet, stemming from an urgent need to unite artistes and voice their rights.
