‘GDP to grow 2pc after Padma bridge, metro rail, Karnafuli tunnel open’

Bangladesh’s gross domestic product (GDP) will grow 1.5-2 per cent more when the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Dhaka metro rail and Karnafuli tunnel will be launched, State Minister for Planning Shamsul Alam said on Tuesday.
Alam also said that Padma Bridge will be opened in June while Karnafuli Tunnel in October and Dhaka metro rail in December this year.
The state minister was talking to the journalists after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
Echoing the Alam, Planning Minister MA Mannan, who was also present at the ECNEC meeting, said the issues of mega projects especially the major projects in Dhaka were discussed in detail in the meeting.
He also said some special projects, including the Padma bridge, Dhaka metro rail and Karnafuli tunnel, will be completed by this year.
When the megaprojects will be completed, these will have a huge impact on the livelihood of the people in the country.
Mannan also said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who chaired the ECNEC meeting, has directed to launch of Chattogram metro rail project after the completion of Dhaka metro rail project.
