Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on Friday distributed Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) among doctors, health officials and nurses, including Civil Surgeon Dr Khairuzzaman, in an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
GCC Mayor Jahangir Alam handed over the PPE, including gloves and masks, among them at the corporation office.
“Doctors and nurses are our resources. If we can’t ensure their safety, we won’t remain secured as well. That is why we’ve
imported all necessary protection equipment for them,” said Jahangir. He said, they have so far imported 20,000 coronavirus testing kits and those will be distributed as per the directives of the Health Ministry.
The process is on to bring 10,000 more testing kits, said Jahnagir, General Secretary of city Awami League.
Altogether 7,000 pieces of PPE have been imported for giving protection to doctors and nurses, he said, adding “It is our moral responsibility to save citizens.”
The mayor also informed that 50,000 poor and low-income people will be fed in the city. Bangladesh on Friday reported four new coronavirus cases taking the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 48.
However, no patient died in the last 24 hours, said Director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora.
Bangladesh has so far reported five deaths from coronavrius, while 11 Covid-19 patients recovered.
The global death toll from the coronavirus or COVID-19 has jumped to 24,087 as on Friday.
