The decision to set up a health and family welfare center in Pirujali Union was taken seven years ago with the aim of ensuring health care for all. In the seven years of building construction in this neglected area, the locals have not got the benefit of it.
When he visited the building on the spot, he told Quddus (60) the New Nation, emotional about the plight of the poor people and addressed the Prime Minister.
Asad Mandal, a local, said most of the people in the union could not afford treatment in private hospitals, so the dream he saw seven years ago is now turning into a nightmare.
Mahbuba Kabir, a student at the local Pirujali Vidyalaya, said the health center would ensure the health care of thousands of poor mothers and children. He and the locals in their speech demanded the Prime Minister to start this health center soon.
Shahjahan Sikder, a land owner and Pirujali union member, said, “My family donated the land in 2013 to ensure medical care for the poor in accordance with my father’s last wish.”
