At least 18 people were seriously injured when two restaurant buildings partly collapsed due to an explosion in Board Bazar area of Gazipur on Sunday.
Most of the injured were the employees of two separate Restaurants and they were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Local sources said that the explosion occurred on the three-storey ‘Radhuni Hotel’ around 3am when the staffs were getting ready to close it. Finally collapsing its ground and second floors and ground floors of two others adjacent buildings. On information, four firefighting units rushed to the spot and put out the blaze caused by the explosion, said Tongi Fire Service Senior Station Officer Atiqur Rahman.
Though still we are not sure what actually happened, the two intact cylinders can be seen after an explosion.
However, a five-member probe body headed by an Additional Magistrate has been formed to investigate the incident and asked to submit its report within seven working days.
The extent of damage due to the fire could not be known immediately.
Meanwhile, the owners of two Restaurants as Rezaul Karim and Habibur Rahman gave different speech as they are confirmed that the explosion was not because of the gas cylinder blast as the cylinders of their hotels are still intact.
Besides, the explosion might have taken place due to a blast in the underground sewerage pipe, the fire officials said.
