A female councillor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) went missing on Friday morning. Perveen Akhter, councillor for reserved seat (Wards 1,2 and 3), left her house on Friday morning for attending in arbitration and still she did not return home.The local people organised a human chain in the GCC compound, demanding immediate rescue of the ward councillor. They also blocked Kaliakoir-Nabinagar Highway at about 10:30am for two hours, police said. Perveen’s husband Minhajul Islam said that his wife left their South Panisail house at 8am on Friday. She was supposed to join an arbitration at Jirani Bazar. She did not take her mobile phone and did not tell us anything in detail before her departure.We started searching for Perveen as she did not return home till noon on the day. After failing to find her, I filed a general diary (GD) with the Joydebpur Police Station in Gazipur district in the evening, he said. He alleged that Dulal Hazari, an accused of Perveen’s father freedom fighter Chan Mia murder case, had threatened to kidnap her three months ago. But we did not file any GD about the threat.Joydebpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Kamruzzaman said that the police have started searching for rescue of Perveen after the GD was filed. Police is hopeful to rescue her soon.On Saturday morning, a person introducing him as a local journalist in Chirirbandar of Dinajpur claimed that the missing councilor was with him.Later, police found the information to be false, Chirirbandar police station Inspector (investigation) Sumon Das Gupta. Joydebpur police station Sub-Inspector Mijanur Rahman said that the locals had organized a human chain and the situation is under control.
