bdnews24.com: Ruling party activists in Gazipur demonstrated on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway on Saturday with the body of its youth front’s leader, who was killed during a clash on Friday. Md Rafiqul Islam— the former president of Gazipur’s Kaliakoir Upazila unit Juba League—was killed in a factional clash, which broke out during an event chaired by Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq. The event was to remember the victims of the 15 August 1975 massacre and the 21 August 2004 grenade attack. Police have already arrested two on Friday night over the murder. Saturday’s agitation created a huge tailback in one of the busiest highways in the country. Traffic resumed after half an hour when the police intervened, said Kaliakoir police OC MD Omar Faruk. “Party activists took out a procession with the body, which was handed over after the autopsy. They blocked the highway with the body and agitated demanding justice for him,” said the police officer. Police managed to persuade them to leave the highway, he added.
