Gazi Group Cricketers maintained the top slot in the table of the 4th Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL) by virtue of more run rate and with three successive wins after crushing Legends of Rupganj by a huge eight-wicket margin in the 3rd round at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan ground 3 in Savar on Thursday.
Defending champions Abahani Ltd also maintained their 2nd position in the 12-team List ‘A’ league table with all-win six points form three games as they managed a 32-run win against Brothers Union in the 3rd round at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
Brothers Union opener Junaid Siddique hammered a century of 114 off 112 balls, including eight boundaries and three six, but his efforts could not avoid the 3rd defeat of his side.
In another 3rd round match, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club bounced back for the 2nd win in the league upsetting Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club by five runs in the curtailed 38-overs-a-side match at BKSP ground 4.
After the day’s result, Legends of Rupganj and Prime Doleshwar SC both the sides suffered the first defeats in this edition league while Brothers Union remained hapless losing all three battles.
Gazi Group vs Legends of Rupganj
National al-rounder Nasir Hossain-led Gazi Group chased down the ordinary target of 157 runs losing two wickets only in 36 overs after restricting Legends of Rupganj in a low score for all in 44 overs.
Pacer Abu Hider grabbed four wickets for economic 26 runs in nine overs for the winners. He was adjudged as the man of the match for his outstanding performances.
Jahurul Islam played an unbeaten innings of 62 off 106 balls, including six boundaries, and shared a partnership innings of 79 in 18.2 overs with Mominul Haque in the 2nd wicket on the way to the gigantic victory.
Starting from 59/1 in 14.3 overs, the 2nd pair was abolished at 138/2 in 32.5 overs as Mominul was caught by Sayem Alam off Mahmudul Hasan bowling, scoring 44 off 53 balls, featuring six boundaries.
Jahurul shared another innings of 59 in 14.3 overs with Anamul Haque in the opening pair which was departed by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.
The only six hitters in the innings, Anamul was trapped by lbw after scoring 34 off 45 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes.
Nasir Hossain was another scorer with unbeaten 15 off 12 balls, hammering three boundaries.
Conceding 27 runs each, Mahmudul Hasan and Mashrafe took one wicket apiece in six and 10 overs respectively.
Mosharraf Hossain (37 off 48b; 4×4;1×6), Mahmudul Hasan (30 off 58b; 2×4; 1×6), Mohammad Sharif (29 off 30b; 4×4;1×6) and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (26 off 48b;1×4;1×6) were the double figure scorers for Legends of Rupganj the side opted to bat first after winning the toss.
Apart from, Abu Hider’s four for 26, Parvez Rasool captured three wickets for 17 runs in 10 overs while Mahedi Hasan Miraz took two for 28 runs in nine overs. Alauddin Babu took one wicket for 26 runs in seven overs.
Abahani vs Brothers
Batting first, Abahani Ltd scored 327 for 6 in 50 overs where Indian wicketkeeper batsman Uday Kaul, who is yet to play any international game, played an innings of 94 runs.
Left handed batsman Uday faced 120 balls to fire five boundaries and was caught by Mohammad Saddam off Kazi Kamrul Islam bowling at 229/3 in 41 overs.
Firing two boundaries and two over boundaries each, skipper Mahmudullah Riyad scored unbeaten 49 runs while Nazmul Hossain Shanto added another 49 runs. Mahmudullah faced 42 balls and Shanto 56 balls in their innings.
Opener Liton Kumar Das stayed for 48 off 49 balls, including six boundaries while man of the match Shuvagata Hom quick fired 44 off 17 balls, including seven boundaries and one six.
Delivering 10 overs each, Alok Kapali and Kazi Kamrul Islam bagged two wickets apiece for 46 and 56 runs respectively for Brothers. Yasir Arafat Mishu and Nihaduzzaman took one wicket each for the side.
Chasing a mammoth target of 328 runs, Brothers Union finished the innings at 295 for 8 in 50 overs, including the outstanding century of Junaid Siddique. Mizanur Rahman (42 off 51b; 7×4) and Nihaduzzaman (not out 41 off 32b; 3×4) were the other notable scorers for the side.
Shuvagata Hom captured three wickets for 45 runs in 10 overs while Mohammad Saifuddin took two for 50 runs in eight overs.
Sheikh Jamal DC vs Prime Doleshwar SC
Sheikh Jamal DC opted to bat first to post 235 for 7 in the rain hit curtailed 38 overs-a-side match and defended their score restricting Prime Doleshwar SC at 230 for 7 in 38 overs.
Imrul Kayes scored 67 off 74 balls, including seven boundaries and one six, for Sheikh Jamal DC. Opener Fazle Mahmud (55 off 57 b; 4×4; 1×6) and Nurul Hasan(not out 47 off 41b; 3×4; 1×6) were the other notable scorers for the side.
Habibur Rahman and Arafat Sunny captured two wickets each conceding 44 and 52 runs in 8 and 7 overs respectively for Prime Doleshwar SC. Delwar Hossain, Enamul Haque and Farhad Reza took one wicket each for 29, 32 and 60 runs.
Indian batsman Puneet Bisht scored 83 off 60 balls, including 11 boundaries, while Marshall Ayub (42 off 52b; 2×4) and Shahriar Nafees (31 off 48b; 4×4) were the other notable scorers for Prime Doleshwar SC.
