Opener Anamul Haque fell short of three runs from century, but Gazi Group Cricketers picked up their fifth win in a row as they managed a 25-run victory over holders Abahani Limited in the fifth round match of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League held on Saturday at BKSP ground no 3 in Savar.
Anamul hit seven boundaries and three over boundaries and shared 93-run fourth wicket stand with Indian recruit Parvez Rasool (91) to help Gazi to post a challenging total of 282 for 9 from their allotted 50 overs, after they put to bat first by Abahani Limited.
Rasool smashed five boundaries and three over boundaries during his 87-ball knock and also shared 80 runs partnership with his skipper Nadif Chowdhury (41) for the fifth wicket stand.
M Saifuddin and Kazi Anik were the pick of Abahani bowlers as they grabbed three wickets each conceding 56 and 58 runs respectively. They were well supported by Manan Sharma who bagged two wickets conceding 56 runs.
In reply, Abahani Limited found the chase stiff losing wickets in regular intervals and finally all out for 257 in 48.1 overs.
Middle order batsman Afif Hossain offered some resistance during the Abahani’s chase with unbeaten 76-run after Abahani slipped to 139 for 5 in 27.3 overs.
Alauddin Babu was the most successful bowler as he claimed three Abahani’s wicket conceding 45 runs while Abu Haider bagged two wickets for 37.
Parvez Rasool of Gazi Group was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance.
