A brilliant century by national coloured all rounder Nasir Hossain enabled Gazi Group Cricketers to make a good start in the Dhaka Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League upsetting Dhaka Mohammedan SC by seven wickets at BKSP ground-3 on Thursday.
In the day’s other matches, Prime Bank CC defeated Kalabagan KC by five wickets at BKSP ground-4 while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club managed a two-wicket win over Victoria SC at Fatullah Stadium.
Sent in to bat first at BKSP ground-3, Dhaka Mohammedan SC scored 220 for 8 in stipulated 50 overs featuring 118 runs in the 5th wicket stand by number five Afghan batsman Rahmat Shah and national all rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz.
After the dismissal of four top batsmen for 78 runs, Rahmat Shah repaired the early damage contributed a polished 78 runs off 91 deliveries featuring six boundaries while Mehedi Hasan Miraz gave him good support scoring another useful 52 runs off 70 balls, hitting two fours and one six.
Opener Shamsur Rahman (35) and lower order Kamrul Islam Rabbi (not out 16) were the other notable scorers for Mohammedan SC.
Mehedi Hasan and Alauddin Babu took two wickets each conceding 29 and 40 runs respectively.
Chasing a target of 221 runs, Gazi Group Cricketers, riding on a captain knock of run-a-ball 106 by Nasir Hossain featuring nine fours and five sixes, easily reached their target making 223 runs for 3 in 37 overs.
Later, Nasir Hossain was adjudged man of the match.
Besides, national coloured opener Anamul Haque (54) and Indian Parvez Rasool (53) were the other main contributors for the winners Gazi Group Cricketers.
National spinner Taijul Islam claimed two wickets for 61 runs.
In the day’s another match, Prime Bank Cricket Club defeated Kalabagan Krira Chakra by five wickets at BKSP ground-4 in Savar on Thursday.
Batting first, Kalabagan KC were all out for 184 runs in 46.2 overs against devastating bowling by national pacer Rubel Hossain.
Former national cricketers Tushar Imran made 47, Zimbabwean cricketer Hamilton Masakadza 38, Sanjit Saha 24 and Mehrab Hossain Junior 21 runs for Kalabagan KC.
National pacer Rubel Hossain made the major damage in the Kalabagan innings claiming six wickets for 21 runs in his 8.2 overs spell with two maidens and named as the player of the match.
National cricketer Soumya Sarker picked up two wickets for 33 runs.
In reply, Prime Bank CC scored 186 runs for the loss of five wickets in 46.5 overs with Indian UBT Chand hammering not out 61 runs off 100 balls with four boundaries.
Al Amin (35), Taibur Rahman (27) and skipper Mehedi Maruf (21) were other leading scorers for Prime Bank CC.
Sanjit Saha captured three wickets for 25 runs.
In the day’s other match, Victoria SC opened innings first after winning the toss and were dismissed for 209 runs in 48.2 overs with Uttam Sarker scoring 88, Nasiruddin Faruk 44 and Mohaimenul 23 runs.
Veteran spinner Abdur Razzak grabbed four wickets while national coloured spinner Shohag Gazi took three conceding 29 runs each.
In reply, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club scored the match-winner 210 for 8 iu 49.2 overs.
National wicket keeper Nurul Hasan Shohan hammered an entertaining innings of 80 runs off 94 balls, hitting five fours and one six to be adjudged man of the match.
Besides, former national vice captain Rajin Saleh (32), Tanvir Hyder (31) and Fazle Mahmud (26) were other main contributors for Sheikh Jamal DC.
Monir Hossain claimed three wickets for 36 runs while Mohammad Arafat took two for 44 runs.
