Gazi GC off to flying start in DPL with Mahedi’s ton

Mahedi Hasan knocked a century on his first List A debut in the Dhaka Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) for Gazi Group Cricketers (GC) that got off to a flying start crushing defending champions Prime Bank Cricket Club by a massive 106 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.
In the other two opening day’s matches of the 12-team one-day-format cricket tournament, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club crushed Cricket Coaching School by 8 wickets spurred by Imtiaz Hossain century at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan Ground-3 in Savar while Abahani Ltd notched an emphatic 7-wicket victory over Kalabagan Krira Chakra at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah thanking on an impressive 6 for 34 spell of Jubair Hossain.
Gazi Group Cricketers vs Prime Bank CC:
Chasing the mammoth target of 304, Prime Bank CC finished the innings at 197 for all in 46.3 overs.
Number-7 batsman Yasir Ali top-scored 56 off 80 balls, including four boundaries and one six while Rubel Hossain added run-a-ball 45 with five fours and one six.
Sabbir Rahman (31) and Taibur Rahman (30) were the other double figure scorers for the side.
Saeed Anwar Jr grabbed three wickets for 31 runs. Mohammad Sharif and Moinul Islam took two wickets for 22 and 49 runs.
Sent in to bat first, Gazi Group Cricketers scored a formidable 303 for 4 in 50 overs spurred by the fantastic top-order performance that included Mahedi’s century of 103 runs and two half centuries by opener Anamul Haque and Shamsur Rahman.
Mahedi, who was adjudged man of the match, decorated his inning with eight boundaries and five sixes off 89 balls and was trapped lbw off a pacer Rubel Hossain bowling at 276/4 in 48.2 overs.
Besides his individual performance, Mahedi stayed with Anamul Haque and Saeed Anwar Jr for two solid partnerships of 54 in 10.5 overs and 84 in 12 overs in the 2nd and 3rd wicket respectively.
Anamul scored 67 off 101 balls that witnessed four boundaries and three sixes and was caught by Rubel Hossain off Nazmul Islam Hossain delivery at 167/2 in 33.2 overs.
In the beginning, Anamul and Shamsur Rahman stayed for 113 runs in 22.3 overs. The opening pair departed as Shamsur was run out scoring 56 off 62 balls, including nine boundaries and one six.
Saeed Anwar Jr (27), Faruque Hossain (not out 22) and skipper Alok Kapali (not out 15) were the other scorers for the side.
Nazmul Islam, Mohammad Azim and Rubel Hossain took one wicket each for 34, 47 and 68 runs.
Cricket Coaching vs Prime Doleshwar SC:
Replyin to 177, defending runners-up of the league Prime Doleshwar SC reached their destination scoring 181 for 2 in 45.2 overs with opener Imtiaz Hossain’s century of 100 runs.
Imtiaz, who was adjudged man of the match, faced 140 balls to fire 12 boundaries before being bowled out by Mohammad Saifuddin at 175/2 in 42.3 overs.
Imtiaz stayed with Rony Talukdar for a 106-run opening partnership in 19.2 overs. Rony scored 47 off 54 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes, before being caught by Amit Majumder off a Saif Hassan bowling.
Raqibul Hasan was another double figure scorer with unbeaten 27 off 69 balls involving two boundaries.
Saif Hassan and Mohammad Saifuddin took one wicket each for 18 and 25 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, Cricket Coaching School scored 177 for all in 49.2 overs.
Opening batsman Pinak Ghosh top-scored 35 off 55 balls including five boundaries. Saeed Sarkar (34), Mohammad Saifuddin (31), Ashrafun Nabi (22), Salman Hossain (20) and Nasum Ahmed (12) were the other double figure scorers for the side.
Rejaul Karim and Al-Amin Hossain grabbed three wickets each for 22 and 34 runs.
Abahani Ltd vs Kalabagan KC:
Chasing 141 runs to seal the win, Tamim Iqbal-led Abahani Ltd reached their destination scoring 142 for 3 in 28.3 overs riding on the unbeaten 4th wicket contribution of unbeaten 57 runs in 10.5 overs between Indian batter Uday Kaul and Nazmul Hossain Shanto.
The 4th pair carried the team total to winning score from 85/3 in 17.4 overs.
Uday Kaul scored the highest 44 off 56 balls including four boundaries while Nazmul Hossain Shanto added 35 off 38 balls involving four boundaries and one six.
Opening batsman Avishek Mitra scored 32 off 42 balls including four boundaries while Liton Das added 12 runs.
Dewan Sabbir and Nihaduzzaman took one wicket each for seven and 32 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, Tigers ODI and T20I skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza-led Kalabagan Krira Chakra scored 140 for all in 33.1 overs.
Zimbabwean batter Hamilton Masakadza top-scored in his number-4 spot staying for 41off 54 balls including five boundaries and was bowled out by Jubair Hossain at 78/3 15.3 overs.
Tasamul Haque (37), Jashimuddin (16), Abdur Razzak (12) and Mehrab Hossain Jr (10) were the other double figure scorers for the side.
Jubair Hossain demolished six wickets for economic 34 runs in 9.1 overs and was adjudged man of the match. Saqlain Sajib bagged two wickets for 25 runs in seven overs.
