A court here on Friday placed BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and three other leaders on a three-day remand in a case filed for obstructing on duty police and assaulting Awami League MP Chhabi Biswas in front of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Tasruzzaman passed the order after officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station Sanaullah Miah produced four arrested BNP leaders — Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Atiqur Rahman, Mohiuddin Chowdhury and Mizanur Rahman — before it and sought a 10-day remand for them each. Gayeshwars’ lawyer, however, filed a bail petition only to be turned by the court. Earlier in the morning, plainclothes police arrested the senior BNP leader from a house in the city’s Shiddheshwari area. Sanaullah Miah, also the investigation officer of the case, said they sought the remand to gather more information about the assault on MP Chhabi Biswas and vandalising his car in front of the DMCH on Wednesday. Later, a case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station in this connection. — UNB, Dhaka.
