UNB, Dhaka :The High Court on Sunday granted bail to BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy in a violence case filed with Rampura Police Station.With this, Gayeshwar has obtained bail in all 27 cases filed against him and there remains no further bar to his release from jail. An HC bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Mohammad Khoshruzzaman passed the order.Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, counsel for theBNP leader, filed an appeal against an order of a Dhaka court asking to submit a report before it by January 27 next on the execution of the arrest warrants of 35 opposition leaders and activists, including Gayeshwar.The HC bench in the order said the accused will be on bail until the petition is disposed. Nitai Roy Chowdhury said now there is no legal bar to the BNP standing committee member’s release from jail. Nitai also said that the HC granted bail to his client accepting the appeal; so he (Goyeshwar) is now on bail in all 27 cases against him.Earlier on November 4, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy was sent to jail again after he surrendered before a court in a violence case filed with Rampura Police Station. Metropolitan Session’s Judge M Quamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order rejecting the BNP leader’s bail prayer.On November 3, the court issued a warrant for the arrest of 35 opposition leaders and activists, including Gayeshwar and former Dhaka city mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, in the case as the accused did not appear before the court during the hearing.
