Bibiyana Gas field resumed normal gas production and as a result, pressure of gas in household burners improved slightly on Tuesday evening.
A press release of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources confirmed that the Bibiyana Gas has started production again.
In a separate statement, Chevron Bangladesh said it is making progress in returning Bibiyana Gas Plant to full capacity as the production at one of the two process trains affected at the plant and four wells in the field have been resumed.
The press release of the ministry said that gas production at the Bibiyana gas field has increased to 1,010 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) which had gone below 800 MMCFD after occurring a technical fault.
The ministry hoped that the production at the gas field will reach 1,100MMCFD by Tuesday night while its capacity is 1,200 MMCFD.
The press release read, “After the relentless work of our experienced engineers, we are slowly overcoming the crisis.”
The release also said that different areas had to experience gas shortage due to emergency repair work at the gas field following a technical problem.
The ministry expressed its gratitude to the gas consumers for their patience during the days of crisis.
The plant is running at a reduced rate after suspension of operations at two of its five trains and six production wells in the field on Sunday after identifying several technical problems.
It said that the cause of the unplanned shutdown will be investigated.
Meanwhile, officials at Petrobangla and Titas Gas Company, said that fully normalising of the situation needs time, because gas production and supplies are still have shortages.
Petrobangla officials also said that they hoped that the situation will further improve after a container ship with imported LNG will reach the country within next week as its supply also to be added the network.
On the first day of the holy Ramadan on Sunday, the country’s gas production severely fell by about 450MMCFD as a technical fault developed in the gas field.
Officials of the field said that the gas field process system noticed that sand was coming out from two production wells. Then the authorities quickly halt the production from the wells.
The incident created worst situation as many areas experienced disruptions following the fall in the pressure of gas supply.
