Fire caused by a leaking gas supply line has burnt six members of a family in Dhaka’s Kafrul Area. Fire Service Control Room Officer Brajan Kumar Sarkar said the fire broke out in the tin-roofed building in East Senparha around 1:30am on Sunday. Three fire-fighting units contained the blaze. The injured had been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he said. The six burnt are SM Delawar Hossain, 45, his wife Saleha, 40, daughters Amena, 25, and Fatema, 12, son Jahid, 14, and one-year-old grandson Arman. They have suffered 16-40 percent burns, said SI Sentu Chandra Das of the hospital police outpost. Sarkar said the fire had been caused by a gas line leak and not by a cylinder blast as claimed by a section of the media. “Someone lit a cigarette and the whole house caught fire because of the escaping gas.” –bdnews24.com
