A BLAZE originated from accumulated gas at a home in the capital’s Uttara took the lives of two children and also injured the house owner and his wife critically and another son of the house owner was burnt slightly. The burning was so intensified that fire engulfed the flat within a minute, giving them no time to come out as per the report of a media outlet on Saturday. It is very depressing that gas fire has taken the lives of innocent people as it took place, of course, due to the negligence of the user.
The report covered police station found in primary investigation that the fire was caused by accumulated gas. But they are yet to be sure whether there was a gas line leak or somebody forgot to turn off the burner.
Lives of other must not be considered unimportant. The matter should be investigated by the gas supplying authority. There must have been some flaw in the flow of gas through pipe line supplied by the concerned gas company.
Recent blaze due to gas leakage is common in Uttara; several fire incidents took place previously due to gas leakages in Uttara Sector-12. Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd at earlier cases spotted at least 15 leakages in domestic gas supply lines in Uttara Sector-12, which were created due to installation of water supply lines which came in contact with the gas lines. Technical teams identified leakages on 0.75 inch, 1 inch and 2-inch gas lines in household premises. Unplanned installation of metallic water supply lines in contact with gas lines in Uttara could have been caused severe accident by creating leakages in both the lines. It once more shows the sharp faults in technical operation which the concerned Engineering Department seems ill equipped to deal with.
Experts opined that to prevent such incidents, residents have to ensure there is sufficient ventilation in the kitchen and the burner is turned off when they go to bed. They also should open all the windows before lighting stoves in the morning. It is also important to find out if the safety of the domestic pipe lines were adequately ensured. Special care should be taken about domestic gas lines.
