Gas supply has seriously disrupted the western part of the capital city due to gas leakage during the road repair development work in the city.
As a result, acute gas crisis was found in Lalbagh, Dhanmondi, Hazaribagh, Mohammadpur, Mirpur, Shyamoli, Green Road, Malibagh, Shantibagh, Mugda, Maniknagar, Kamalapur, Mogbazar and some other areas of the capital.
Sources said gas stoves have not been burning in these areas since Tuesday morning till evening.
Meanwhile, distribution company Titas has apologized to the valuable clients for the temporary inconvenience. The agency said it had already begun work to resolving the issue.
Titas Gas’s Managing Director Ali Iqbal Md Nurullah said they were trying to increase the gas pressure in the important areas through Demra line.
Gas supply may be normal after 9 pm, “When the repair work will be completed, the gas pressure will become normal, he said.
Earlier, the authority hoped that the issue will be resolved by evening. In this regard, Titas Public Relations Officer Mirza Mahbub Hossain said that the high pressure gas line of Titas Gas was damaged during the road development work of Roads and Highways Department at Amin Bazar in Dhaka.
As a result, gas pressure will remain low in several areas including Lalbagh, Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Hazaribagh, Mirpur and Green Road till 6 pm. Development work will return to normal situation, he added. Residents of many parts of the city complained that the supply of gas in their areas was so low that they found it difficult to cook food during the daytime.
“The problem starts after 7:00am and continues throughout the day. In fact, till noon we find no gas, said Sumi Akter, wife of one Abul Hasnat and resident of Lalbagh.
Nurun Nahar Pakhi, resident of city’s Mohammadpur said that we didn’t prepare our food today (Thuesday) due to absence of gas. We still don’t know when gas will come back and when we shall cook, she added.
Actually we are in panic about the return of gas as we couldn’t prepare our food even throng out the day, said Mohammad Kurshed Alam, inhabitant of Gopibagh of the capital city.
Mentionable that most of the hotels, pumps and shops in the city areas remained shut centering the VIP’s visit in Dhaka.
