Chakaria (Cox’s Bazar) Correspondent :
Gasoline (LP) gas cylinders are being sold without license in Chakaria Upazila .
The cylinders are available in upazila’s Rastaghat and Hat Bazar area and at the heart of the road, without the license of the Explosive Directorate.
Selling of these risky cylinders is increasing day by day and the traders illegally stored thesew. Most of the shops are doing business without the license.
LP cylinders are also available at the grocery stores in the town.
It is learnt that many of these shopkeepers have no trade license. Gas cylinders are not allowed to sell any government offices. These stores do not have fire extinguishers. There is no remedy for any major accident. As a result, casualties can occur at any time.
According to Article 53 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, if there is any work that can jeopardize the life or security of the service provider, there is a provision of imprisonment for a term of three years, or a fine not exceeding two lakh taka or both. But without risking proper maintenance of the fuel at the risk, it is selling illegally without the license of the Directorate.
In the country, dealers usually purchase cylinders from the manufacturers’ factory. The dealers then reach the LP gas cylinder directly to the consumers through retail traders. In this case, the producers are yet to verify the details of the documents of the explosives in the case of supply of cylinders to the dealers.
In different areas of the upazila, there are 52 shops in Chakaria municipality and 44 small shops in seven unions of the upazila’s Matamuhhari area, more than 11 unions of Chakaria upazila and 60 shops in the market.
Most of these shopkeepers did not get the licenses of the Explosive Directorate.
Besides, without knowing the risk of supervisors, the shopkeepers are running the business without certification and fire extinguishing system. LPG gas cylinders of different brands are being sold in one store. In addition to tea and water shops anywhere, LPG gas is available in hardware, cement, monohri and grocery products.
In this regard, Chakaria Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Saiful Hasan said, I have visited a few hundred cylinders of gas cylinders in different upazilas of the upazila. Of these 25 licenses were found in the shops of the Explosive Department, but 129 stores did not get the licenses of the Explosive Directorate. And their list will be given to the upazila administration on our behalf.
