An elderly Garo woman and her daughter were murdered by unidentified assailants murdered at their rented flat in the capital’s Kalachandpur area on Tuesday night
The deceased are Besat Moni Chiran, 65, and her daughter Sujata Chiran, 35, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mostak Ahmed.
“The incident is being investigated. Who and why the murder incidents took place will be revealed once the investigation is done”, the DC said.
Sujata was butchered and her mother strangled on the fourth floor of the seven-storey building, Rafiqul Isla, Assistant Commissioner (Gulshan Zone) of DMP said.
“We visited the spot and afterwards sent the bodies to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy,” the AC said. A team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) collected evidence from the spot. “Tlester Daring, husband of Sujata’s eldest daughter, was the first to be alerted to the murder when he went to the flat in 58/2 Kalachandpur from his workplace around 8:00pm,” family sources said.
“The door was locked from outside. Opening it, Tlester found a blood-stained Sujata lying on the floor,” they said.
Tlester then spotted the blood-stained body of his mother-in-law kept under the bed, they added.
Tlester then called his father-in-law Ashish Mankhin, who was at his workplace. Later, they called police, who immediately sealed the flat to collect evidence and then sent the bodies to the morgue, according to them.
Police collected footage from the CCTV camera of the building where they found four youths, including Sanjit, son of Sujata’s sister, entering the flat around 4:00pm on Tuesday, said Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakar Siddik.
“We are primarily suspecting their involvement in the murder,” he said. Police, however, detained Sujata’s son-in-law and his friend for interrogation, he added Gulshan police SI (investigation) Salahuddin said Sujata was stabbed dead while her mother strangled.
Family feud might have led the killing, the SI said.
It appeared from the CCTV footage of the house that four persons including Sujat’s nephew Sanjit entered the house at 4:00pm and left before 6:00pm. Jahangir Alam, son of the flat owner, told reporters that Sujata, her three daughters, and her eldest daughter’s husband, Tlester Daring, and his two-year old son, had been living there for one and a half years. They all from Haluaghat of Mymensingh.
“They have been living there peacefully. I don’t have any knowledge of any dispute in the family,” Jahangir said.
Meanwhile, an autopsy reports showed that Besat Chiran was struggled to death while Sujata Chiran has been hacked to death.
A three-members board led by Dr Prodip Biswas, Lecturer at Forensic Department of DMCH, conducted the post mortems on at the hospital mortuary on Wednesday afternoon.
At least 14 injury marks found at chest, back, hands and other part of the body of Sujata Chiran, said Dr Prodip.
We have colleted DNA sample, blood and different pats of the deceased’s bodies, he said.
