One of the owners of a garment factory in Ashulia on the outskirts of the capital was hacked to death inside the factory by some unidentified assailants on Saturday night.
The deceased Md Azam, 30, was killed in the office room of the factory — Jubayer Cap Company Ltd — located on the second floor of Bhai Bhai Super Market in the area.
Badrul Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia Police Station, said police detained Azam’s business partner Golam Mostofa in connection with the murder. The detainee, however, denied his involvement with the murder.
Mostofa told police that while Azam and he were talking together in the factory office, some masked men entered there and hit Azam in the head and later hacked him to death. He also claimed that he escaped the scene by jumping from the building.
However, the victim’s family ruled out his (Mostofa) claim.
They alleged that Mostofa along with his cohorts locked into an altercation with Azam over a business-related matter and killed Azam. After that, they left the office room locking its door from outside.
Some of the workers first saw Azam killed and later informed police, who recovered the body and took it to Ashulia Police Station.
Sheikh Rasel, assistant superintendent of police, Savar Circle of Dhaka district police, said on information, they recovered the body by breaking open the door of office room.
“One of the workers was also detained for questioning about the murder,” he said.
Azam hailed from Shahjadpur in Sirajganj district.
