A woman was injured in a collision when a city corporation garbage truck hit her at Mohammadpur in the capital on Thursday (December 2).
After the incident, the woman was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
Later, the driver of the garbage truck was arrested.
But surprisingly, both Dhaka North and South City Corporations stated that the truck was not theirs.
According to Mohammadpur police, a sticker of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) was affixed in the front of the vehicle.
However, the Public Relations Officer of DSCC Abu Naser said in a press release on Thursday afternoon that the vehicle which caused the accident was a car of ‘Jessore-T-1236’ serial number. Such vehicles are not used in the activities of the waste management department of the DSCC or in any of the activities of the corporation.
Even in the database of vehicles of the corporation there is no data of such vehicle.
Besides, the relevant information published in the media that the accident
site is not under the jurisdiction of South City Corporation.
Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Public Relations Officer Abul Basar Mohammad Tajul Islam told the media saying that the Mohammadpur area is under DNCC. That is why many people say that the car belongs to DNCC.
But DNCC does not have such a garbage truck at all. The car has a sticker of Dhaka South City Corporation on it.
When asked, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station Abdul Latif told the New Nation that the dirty car does not belong to the two city corporations.
The garbage truck was privately owned and used for garbage work contractually.
However, the car had a South City Corporation sticker on it. We arrested the driver. His name is Ratan (30), OC said.
Earlier, Naeem Hasan, a student of Notre Dame College, was killed in a head-on collision with a Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) garbage truck in front of Gulistan Hall Market on November 24 at around 11:30 am.
The next day, on November 25, another man named Kabir Khan was killed in a collision with a North City Corporation (DNCC) garbage truck in the Panthapath area of the capital; He is a former employee of the daily Prothom Alo.
The drivers were arrested of both the accidents. After the incident, the two city corporations had formed an investigation committee.
