A gang of criminals is robbing various houses in the capital city by sending their men in the guise of domestic workers. Exploiting the opportunity, the members of the gang stole and fled with valuables including gold ornaments, said DMP Detective Police Joint Commissioner Mahbub Alam.
This information was given at a press conference held in the media center of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier on Saturday, the DB Ramna Division’s illegal arms and drug control team arrested Nupur Akter, a domestic worker from Comilla’s Laksham Upazila’s Baurtala area. A gold bangle, a gold chain, a ring and five thousand taka were recovered from her.
By contacting online, Nupur got a job in a house at Rampura with a salary of Tk 10,000. Three days later, she fled the house with three and a half loads of gold ornaments and money.
The guardian did not have the much information about the newly joined housekeeper. It is learned that in the capital, many people are hiring domestic workers with the help of online groups including Facebook groups.
Without checking and sorting out the information, various crime gangs are committing theft and robbery through the housemaids.
In this situation, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged the domestic workers to submit their detailed information and photography of the housemaid to the nearest police station.
