A jungle pirate of Sundarbns named Rafikul Islam Rana (37) was killed in a gun battle with RAB at Majher char (island) of the river Baleswar under Sharankhola Forest Range in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans on Monday morning.
RAB claimed, the deceased is Rafiqul Islam Rana, the ring leader of a gang of jungle pirates named Nowa Bahini.
Atika Islam, Commanding Officer (CO) of RAB-8 said over mobile phone, acting on secret information an Operating Team of RAB raided Majher char (island) of the river Baleswar on Monday morning as a part of an act of subduing the jungle pirates from the coastal regions. As soon as the RAB reached there the jungle pirates opened gun fire on them. The RAB also replied to it with gun fire. As a result, a gun fight continued for a whiles. At one stage the jungle pirates retreated and fled away into the deed forest.
Then the members of the RAB searched the area, recovered a dead body of a jungle pirate, one gun, 2 shooter guns and some locals (home made) arms from there. Later the local fishermen identified the dead body as jungle pirate Rafikul Islam Rana (37).
