Gang dacoities in fishing trawlers at Dublar Char

Armed jungle pirates belonging to Choto Bahini, a newly formed notorious gang of jungle pirates of Sundarbans committed gang dacoities in about 30 fishing trawlers in the Bay of Bengal at Dublar Char (islands) within Sharankhola Forest range under the Eastern Division of Sundarbans in Bagerhat in the early hours of Saturday, according to a delayed report received here. Not only that but also the jungle pirated kidnapped 2 fishing trawlers along with their 20 fishermen in order to realize a hand some amount of cash Taka as ransom. Shaikh Idris Ali, president of the Fishermen’s Association of the Coastal areas confirmed the news of committing the gang dacoities and kidnapping of the fishermen. According to him, at the night when the fishermen were catching fish in the Bay of Bengal near Dublar Char the armed jungle pirates appeared there, identified themselves as the members of Choto Bahini raided the fleet of fishing trawlers, beat the fishermen, committed dacoity and looted fish, food, diesel oil, mobile sets and other valuables. The incident of gang dacoity continued from 12 pm to till sun rise. At the time of their departure the jungle pirates kidnapped fishing trawlers FB. Maa-Janany and FB. Imran and their 20 fishermen including their drivers Nijam Majhi and Khalil Majhi in order to realize ransom. The kidnapped fishermen hail from the different places of Patharghata Upazila of Barguna district.
 Mohammad Hossain, Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) of Sharankhola Forest Range under the Eastern Division of Sundarbans told, after being informed of the news of committing gang dacoities in the fleet of fishing trawler and kidnapping 20 fishermen icluding 2 fishing trawlers to realize ransom by the jungle pirates the matter was brought to the notice of the Coast-guards in the morning and they (coast-guards) already started their operation to rescue the kidnapped fishermen.
 It may be mentioned here that after the surrender of more than one hundred jungle pirates belonging to different gangs of jungle pirates along with huge arms and ammunitions and after the death of a number of leaders of jungle pirates in the gun battle with the law enforcers the activities of the jungle pirates in Sundarbans and in the Bay of Bengal was reduced considerably. But very recently the jungle pirates are trying to raise their heads again.
