At least four persons, including a police official, received bullet injuries in a ‘gunfight’ between suspect robbers and police in the city’s Gandaria area on Monday.
The injured are Milon alias Van Milon alias Sajib, 27, Swapan, 25, Sajib alias Raju alias Kajol and Kazi Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Gandaria Police Station.
Police have detained seven suspected robbers from Namapara of Gandaria Police Station under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said, “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive near a mosque at Namapara of Gandaria to arrest the robbers on Saturday night. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robber opened fire targeting the police. In retaliation, police fired back that left Sajib, Swapan and Milan injured. They received bullet wounds in the incident.”
Gandaria OC Mizanur Rahman also sustained bullet injuries in his leg, he said.
Masudur Rahman said that the injured robbers were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital,
while Gandaria OC Mizanur was sent to Rajarbagh Police Line Hospital.
Meanwhile, police recovered a foreign-made pistol, two magazines, six rounds of bullets, two knives, a machete and grill cutting machine from their possession.
A case was filed in connection with the incident.
