Victory month December: Gafargaon freed on Dec 9

Gafargaon Liberation Day was observed through gathering of freedom fighters and rally on December 9.
On the 9th December in 1971, valiant freedom fighters liberated Gafargaon under Mymensingh defeating the Pakistan occupation forces who explosive blasted on the town. The occupation forces also came to Gafargaon and burnt a lot of houses killing innocent people , raping women, oppressed people brutally. On this day in 1971, a team of freedom fighters led by company Commander Major Afser Bahini attacked the Pakistani Bahini and was defeated by the freedom fighters. They were compelled to flee away from the town.
The people passed the whole night in a horrific state and with a deep sentiment of pleasure to see the rising sun of independence. The whole town and surrounding areas were besieged by the valiant freedom fighters chanting slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ in a jubilant mood. People hoisted the flag of independent Bangladesh at dawn atop all private and public buildings.
On the occasion of the day local freedom fighters have taken various programmes.
