The aspiring future IT leaders and entrepreneurs have put forward suggestions including attractive remuneration packages for the entrepreneurs to grow, providing more IT training for building skilled manpower and low cost but high speed internet facilities to boost IT sector.
The suggestions came when Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder gave assignment to 120 youngsters receiving IT training under a Fast Track Future Leader (FTFL) Training course of World Bank funded Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project at Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) at Comilla on Thursday.
LICT Project Director Md. Rezaul Karim, Project Management Specialist Sarker Abul Kalam Azad and Communication Specialist Ajit Kumar Sarkar were present.
The LICT project, which would create 34,000 IT professionals, selected 120 youngsters through online exam for second batch to provide three-month training-one month in Comilla BARD and two months in Dhaka-under FTFL training course.
The ICT Secretary who has good track record of carrying out training conducted two-hour session on soft skill at the auditorium of BARD.
At one stage he assigned 12 groups of 10-member each to separately identify five problems in the ICT sector and provide suggestions to resolve those.
All the 12 group leaders who led 10-member team will complete one-month soft skill training programme on 28 November and begin two-month technical training in Dhaka gave a presentation prepared after 15-minute discussion on the topic with their members.
“I am really happy to hear the presentation of the group leaders who have pin-pointed the problems and made constructive suggestions to solve those,” Sikder said while expressing his reaction.
He went on saying, “Each of the 120 youngsters is talented and the government is very keen to create an opportunity for them to flourish their latent talent.”
The ICT secretary said he will talk to the Bangladesh Bank governor and relevant authorities to arrange credit for the IT-trained youngsters who have vowed to be entrepreneurs and leaders in the IT sector.
The youngsters were enthralled to hear lecture from the ICT secretary and informed him that the one month training has helped them to build confidence to become IT entrepreneurs.
“The one month soft skill training helps me to build my confidence to be entrepreneur, articulate and goal oriented and above all it gave me glimpses of what is expected of me in the real world,” said a team leader Farzana Islam who graduated from National University.
Another team leader Jasim Uddin said, “After the three-month training, I am looking forward to work in the ICT-driven industry first and then to develop myself as entrepreneur.”
The youngsters who submitted the problems of ICT sector to the secretary also identified poor investment flow in the IT sector, inadequate IT education system and lack of infrastructure.
In their suggestions they also mentioned ensuring industry oriented training, raising awareness among the people about IT profession, ensuring government investment and setting up international standard IT training institutions.
