The High Court on Tuesday published the full text of its verdict that upheld the death sentence of four convicts in a case filed over killing of 13-year-old boy Rajon in Sylhet in 2015.
The text of the verdict was published on the website of the Supreme Court after Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice M Jahangir Hossain, who delivered the judgment, signed the copies of the verdict.
Earlier on April 11, the HC upheld the death sentence of the four convicts in the case.
The four death row convicts are: Qamrul Islam, Chwkidar Moyna Miah alias Baro Moyna, Taj Uddin Badal and fugitive Zakir Hossain Pavel.
The court also had commuted the life term imprisonment of Nur Miah to six months’ jail.
Earlier, on January 30, the High Court started hearing the death reference and appeals of the condemned convicts of the case.
Sylhet Metropolitan and Sessions Judge’s Court handed down the death penalty to four people, including Saudi expatriate Quamrul Islam, for killing Rajon on November 8, 2015.
On July 8, 2015, Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila of Sylhet, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city.
The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident. The video clip went viral on social networking site Facebook and video site Youtube, triggering a widespread outcry.
