Full-fledged operation of NCT launched in Ctg Port

Minister for Shipping Md. Shahjahan Khan MP formally inaugurated the long awaited New Mooring container terminal (NCT) yesterday evening as chief guest.
After long 8 years of its completion, finally NCT is going for full-fledged operation from yesterday.
The NCT will be operated by a private berth operator. Saif Power Tec which has been entrusted with the operation of 4 berths of NCT out of 5 berths. The No.1 berth will be kept reserved for Pangaon terminal of Narayangonj.
Saif power Tec will operate No.2,3,4 & 5 berths. The inaugural function of the NCT was arranged at No.2 berth duly presided over by the Port chairman Read Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed.
City Mayor AJM Nasiruddin, local legislator MA Latif, member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury MP, Managing Director of Saif Power Tarafdar Ruhul Amin and the leaders of the business community and port users forum leaders were present in the inaugural ceremony.
Through competitive tenders , the operational activities have been given to Saif Power Tech. The tender value of the four berths was Tk.99.60 cr.
Two separate agreement was signed for operation of NCT on June 25 and September 23 last.
Mentionable the the work of NCT begins in 2004 which was completed in 2007 at a cost of Tk.469 cr.
After long bureaucratic complications of 8 years, Saif Power Tec has been entrusted with the operation of berth No.2,3,4 & 5 of New Morring Container Terminal of Chittagong Port.
Port sources said the handling capacity of the NCT targeted 13 lakh TEUs containers annually. After fullfledged operation of the NCT, the handling capacity of the Chittagong port will be double than the existing .
