Nahid to pvt varsities: Fulfil conditions or face action

Observing that many private universities cannot fulfil the conditions set by the government, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday warned that stern actions will be taken if they fail to fulfill the required conditions within the stipulated time.
He came up with the warning while addressing the 7th convocation of the University of Asia and Pacific (UAP) as a representative of Vice Chancellor of the university President Abdul Hamid.
The Education Minister also urged the private universities to make the admission and tuition fees student-friendly ones.
Nahid also stressed improving the standard of
education in the country’s universities so that young graduates from Bangladesh could efficiently compete in the global job market.
He said, the university students must acquire knowledge, skills and self-confidence to lead the nation and also the world. “So, they should take advantage of science and ICT.”
The Education Minister said students should apply their earned knowledge in their careers for rapid development of the country.
Emphasising the need for creating environment conducive to exploring knowledge and carrying out research in universities, he said new subjects should be introduced and university curricula and methods of education should be improved to ensure world-class education in the country’s universities.
Professor Emeritus Dr AF Serajul Islam Choudhury, UAP board of trustee chairperson AKM Kamaluddin Chowdhury, its Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Jamilur Reza Chowdhury also spoke at the convocation.
