Small fruit traders in the capital called an indefinite strike from Thursday, demanding a revoke of the police’s ongoing drive against chemical laced fruits.
They raised the allegation that they are facing harassment by the law
enforcers during such drive and police are asking for toll from them while conducting the drive.
The strike would continue until the drive is stopped, said a press release of the Small Fruits Baboshayi Samiti of Dhaka.
The press release signed by the Samity president Md Sanaullah and general secretary Afzal Hossain, alleged that the police are harassing the traders and the members of the law enforcing agencies are demanding toll in the name of the drive.
Their drive remains ineffective as the kits used to detect formalin in fruits are not effective, they said, adding, police have already damaged tones of fruits in the name of the drive and the traders have suffered huge financial losses in the way.
“We would continue the strike until the so-called drive against the chemical mixed fruits is stopped,” they added.
