Speakers at a post rally discussion here on Wednesday underlined the need for establishing a friendly atmosphere for the disabled to ensure a dignified position for them in society.
They are not disable, they are differently able, they should be given special care to bring them into the mainstream of development as they are equally talented like other people of the society, they said.
They were addressing a discussion meeting organized by District Administration and Department of Social Welfare at local Shilpakala Academy here in observance of International Day for the disabled.
The speakers said the disadvantaged people should be extended cooperation so that they could bring welfare for the country and the nation as well.
Deputy Director of Local Government Khaled Mamun Chowdhury addressed the function as the chief guest while Deputy director, department of social welfare Abul Kashem delivered the welcome speech as special guest.
With the chair of the president of Ashar Alo disabled Samity Sofia Begum, the discussion was addressed among others by district representatives of BRAC Proval Saha, executive director of ABC Sanjoy Ranjan Kar, executive director of PAPRI Abu Based, Narsingdi women’s college teacher disabled Alamin and disabled Belal Hossain.
They said the disabled children must be given equal opportunity in institutional education so that they could grow as worthy citizens and contribute to the country’s development in various fields.
Earlier, a colorful rally was brought from Deputy Commissioner’s office premises and paraded the main roads of the town.
