Freshers’ reception for the students of 2015-16 academic session and farewell for the students of 2008-09 academic sessions of the Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering department of the Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia was held on Tuesday amid enthusiasm and festivity.
The programme kicked off at the Teachers’ and Students Cultural Centre (TSCC) auditorium of the university around 10am and it was continued till 5pm.
Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof Dr Abdul Hakim Sarker was present as the chief guest with Professor of the department Dr M Mizanur Rahman in the chair.
Former Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Dr M Alauddin, Vice-Chancellor of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) Prof Dr M Abdus Sattar, IU Pro-VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, Dean of Applied Science faculty Prof Dr M Samsul Alam attended the programme as special guests, among others.
Associate Professor Dr Minnatul Karim conducted the ceremony while most of the teachers and students of the department were present.
Later a cultural function was presented by the students of different departments who rendered songs, performed dance, staged drama and other cultural programmes.
