Independence, National Day observed in districts: Fresh vow to uphold spirit of Liberation War

The 47th Independence and National Day-2017 is being celebrated amidst much enthusiasm and festivity in the district as elsewhere across the country on Sunday. Different social , cultural and political organisations, socio-cultural and professional bodies and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrated the day in a befitting manner.Our correspondent and agencies reports :
Bagerhat Correspondent reports: The 47the Independence and National Day was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas on Sunday with a fresh vow to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War and to build a “Sonar Bangla” as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On the completion of 46th anniversary of the Independence, this year carried special significance in the national unity is badly needed at the moment to root out militancy from the country.
The district administration, Government departments, Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Awami League (AL) and its associate organizations, other political parties, socio-cultural and professional bodies and educational institutions earlier chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrated the day in a befitting manner.
The observance began through heralding 31 gun salutes at the local Police Line ground, hoisting of national flag atop all public and private buildings and educational institutions, placing of floral wreaths at Muktijoddha Shahid Minar at Dasani squire, by Bagerhat district administration, police administration, Awami League and its front organizations, Bagerhat Press Club, Bagerhat Bar Association and other political and socio-cultural organizations in commemorating of those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Independence of the mother land.
 At 8-30 am a formal march past was held in the local Shaikh Helaluddin stadium where the police, Ansar, VDP, Scouts, BNCC, Rovers, Girls’ guides, students of different educational institutions took part in the march past and displayed various physical performances. Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagehat ceremonially hoisted the national flag at the stadium and took the salute of the participants.
Later the district administration accorded reception to the freedom fighters and the members of the martyred families at the stadium. The other highlights of the day’s programmes were special prayers in the mosque, temples and churches, supply of improved diets to the orphans in the orphanages, patients in hospitals and prisoners in the jail, illumination, fancy foot ball game, cultural functions.
Dupchanchia (Bogra) Correspondent reports : The 47th independent and national Day was observed with befitting manner by glowing tributes to the Martyrs and veterans of the War of Liberation under Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra district on Sunday.
Marking the day, different political parties as well as socio-cultural and professional organisations had taken elaborate programmes to observe the day while the programmes include hoisting of the National Flag, placing of wreaths at the National Memorial at different places, offering of special prayers, holding of seminars, discussions and cultural functions. The ruling Bangladesh Awami League, led by president Mizanur Rahman Khan Shelim, has chalked out an elaborate programme to observe the Independence Day
Bissobiddaloy Club President Sudeb Kumar Kunda, Secretary Abdus Salam, former president Asim Kumar Das, former secretary Alauddin Fakir, organiser Emdadul Haque and member Parimal Chaudhury and Poddut Kumar placed wreaths at the monuments.
The day’s programmes heralded with a 31-gun salute early in the morning as a mark of respect to the heroic struggle of this nation with tight security measured by officer -in-charge of Dupchanchia police station Nazrul Islam who was awarded last year for dousing crime with the assistance of sub-inspector Musa. The National Flag fly atop all government and private buildings.
Special prayers have been offered in all mosques, temples, churches and other places of worship across the upazila seeking divine blessings for the eternal peace of the departed souls of Father of the Nation.
BSS from Rajshahi says: The Independence and National Day is being celebrated in Rajshahi city and its adjacent areas on Sunday amidst much enthusiasm and festive mood since early morning.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), divisional and district administrations besides various political, social and cultural organizations and educational institutions including Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and Rajshahi Medical College chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day.
The day’s programmes began with heralding of 31 gun salutes at Police Line and placing wreaths at the altar of the city’s Shaheed Minars at the zero hours.

The day is being celebrated with a fresh pledge for building a developed, prosperous, non-communal and exploitation-free Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The district administrations, city corporation, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad (BMS), Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies, other political parties and organisations are celebrating the day.
The celebrations began through heralding 31 gun salutes on Police Lines ground and placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar, Swadhinota Smritistambha ‘Arjan’ and monuments of martyred freedom fighters (FFs) at 5:57 am this morning.
Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu first placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar here at 5:57 am. Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed, DIG Khondker Golam Faruk, Acting Deputy Commissioner Sultana Pervin, Police Super Mizanur Rahman simultaneously placed wreaths at Swadhinota Smritistambha ‘Arjan’ in the city.
Leaders of AL and its associate bodies, BMS, BNP, Jatiya Party, JASOD, Gano Forum, Ganatantry Party, Workers Party, BSD, CPB and other political leaders placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar.
Leaders of Rangpur Ainjibi Samity, Chamber, District Corruption Prevention Committee, Sommilito Sangskritik Jote, Rangpur Shahitya Sangskritik Parishad, Shilpokola Academy, Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi, NGOs and other organisations placed wreaths there.
The national flag was hoisted atop all of the government, semi-government, private and public buildings, educational and other institutions and organisations and receptions were accorded to the valiant FFs and family members of martyred FFs.
The divisional commissioner hoisted national flag and took salute in the colourful march pasts displayed at Rangpur Stadium. Documentary films are being screened and competitions on drawing for children on independence, sports competitions arranged and cultural functions and discussion meetings being organised.
The main streets and roadside islands have been decorated with national flag, posters and miniature flags, the government buildings and buildings of the other organisations were illuminated giving the city eye-catching looks. Shooting, drawing competitions for children on the War of Liberation, Independence, charity football match, competitions, cultural functions, prize distribution ceremonies and discussion meetings were organised at different venues.
Special prayers are being offered at all mosques, temples, pagodas and churches and improved diets served to inmates of the hospitals, jails, vagabond centers, ‘Shishu Paribar’ and orphanages.
BSS from Khulna reports: Different organisations and Khulna District Administration here on Sunday observed 46th Independence Day over the Pakistani occupation forces, pledging to establish a non-communal, prosperous and developed Bangladesh with the spirit of Liberation war.
The Independence Day programme has begun with 31-gun salute at dawn at the Khulna Police Line Ground.
Khulna divisional commissioner Md. Abdus Samad hoisted the national flag at Khulna Zilla School Ground and took salute from the parade.
Khulna Shishu Academy and Khulna Shilpokala Academy organized art and painting competitions for children on the occasion.
A discussion meeting and reception programme to the freedom fighters were held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner office.
National flags were hoisted atop of all public and private buildings at dawn and floral wreaths were placed by the people of all walks of life at the Gallyamary martyrdom memorial on the day. Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions, seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country.
Improved diet has been served at all hospitals, orphanage centers and jail to mark the day.
State-run Khulna Betar broadcasted special programmes while the local newspapers brought out special supplements on the occasion.
