Marking the Day, district administration, freedom fighters, political parties, educational institutes and various cultural and social organisations chalked out special programmes. Barishal Correspondent reports: The 48th Independence and National Day was observed on Tuesday in Barishal with exceptional programmes.
Barisal Reporters Unity, arranged day-long 15th exhibition about facts, photos, documents and books on liberation war at Bangabandhu Udyan and painting competition, tales from liberation war, reception to freedom fighters on Independence day at BRU premises on Monday and Tuesday.
The exceptional programmes of tales from liberation war and exhibition drawn attentions of a huge number of spectators, specially the freedom fighters and young generation.
Barisal Sangskritik Sangothan Samanya Parishad (BSSSP), an alliance of the 27 major cultural organizations of the city, arranged the three-day programmes of discussion meetings, recitations, songs, dances, dramas and staging cultural performances at Barisal Central Shaheed Minar.
They also organised candle-light procession to pay tributes for the martyrs of mass killing on ‘black night’ of March 25, 1971.
Barisal Islamia College also arranged exhibition on facts and documents from on liberation war, cultural function, discussion in the college premises inaugurated by Mohsin Ul Islam Habul, principal of the college on Independence Day morning.
The other programmes to celebrate Independence Day 2019 in the city also included paying flower tributes at the alters of the martyrs in the mass killing ground (Baddhya Bhumi) and martyrs memorial board ( Shaheed Smriti Falok) till late morning of the Day.
The district administration, Muktijoddha Sangsad also arranged discussion, reception party of the freedom fighters, family members of the martyred on this occasion.

The participants of the programmes paying tribute to the martyrs of Liberation War called to build the nation with the spirit of the Liberation War and said failure to do that would not be acceptable as it was matter of fulfilling a national promise.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj reports: The 49th Independence and National Day was observed in Kishoreganj on Tuesday .
Kishoreganj District Administration, District Police, RAB, Pourashava together with many political parties including ruling Awami League, BNP, Jasod, Ganatantree Party, CPB, Basod, NAP, socio and cultural organisations including educational institutions have taken a day- long programmes.
The day’s programme started with heralding of 31 gun salutes and placing of wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar at the zero-hours.
A combined march past of the Police, Ansar-VDP, Fire Service, BNCC, Scouts, Girls Guides and Student of different school, college, madrasa was held at Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam stadium ground in the morning.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury and Police Super Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) taken the salute from the march past attended as chief guest and special guest.
The programmes also included hoisting of national flag atop all government, semi-government, private and public buildings and institutions, reception to the FFS and screening of documentary films at cinema halls.
A discussion reception to freedom fighters was held at local Somobay Community Center on Tuesday noon. Rezwan Ahmed Toufic MP attended as Chief Guest while DC Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury presided over chair.

Kishoreganj Rifles Club arranged a shooting competition and discussion meeting held at its conference room with club President & Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury in the chair.

Khulna (South) Correspondent says: Like other parts of the country, 48th Independence Day was celebrated in Khulna city and at nine upazila areas of the district on Tuesday paying rich tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their valuable lives for freeing the country from the Pakistani Occupation forces in 1971 and also paying homage to the women who were brutally tortured, violated and killed during the Liberation War for freedom of the country.
Before 47 years, on March 26, 1971, Liberation War started which was declared by father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman before his arrest by Pakistani army and as such around three million people and the honor of nearly half a million of women sacrificed their valuable lives and assets for an independent Bangladesh.
Marking the day, different organizations including government, non-government, autonomous bodies, political parties, professional bodies and institutions arranged different programs.
The day was heralded by 31 gun salutes at 12.01 am on Sunday at Khulna police Lines ground.
Khulna District Administration and Khulna City Corporation (KCC) arranged different programs on the occasion of Victory Day.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Lokman Hossain Mia hoisted National Flag at Khulna Divisional Stadium ground and took salute from the parade.
A discussion meeting and reception to the freedom fighters were held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna Mohammad Helal Hossain.
National flags were hoisted atop all public and private buildings at dawn and people from all walks of life placed floral wreaths at Gallamari monument on the day.
Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions, seeking divine blessings , peace and progress for the country.
Improved diets were served at hospitals, orphanages and jail on the day.
Colorful victory rallies were brought out in the city which paraded the main streets.

Khulna city and district units of the ruling party (AL) paid tribute at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and placed floral wreath at the Gallamary Martyr Memorial.
A discussion meeting was held on life of Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin who was brutally tortured and killed by the then Pakistani Army Janta in collaboration with the Razakar, Al Badar Bahini ( Who were against the Liberation War) in 1971 beside the river Rupsha in Khulna city.
BNP and Jatiya Party’s Khulna City and district units also arranged different programs marking the victory day.
Bagerhat Correspondent says: The 48the Independence and National Day was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its all the 9 upazilas on Tuesday with a fresh vow to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War and to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The district administration, police administration, Government departments, Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Awami League (AL) and its all the front organizations, other political parties, socio-cultural and professional bodies and educational institutions earlier chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day in a befitting manner.
The observance began through heralding 31 gun salutes at the local Police Sadar PS, hoisting of national flag atop all public and private buildings and educational institutions, placing of floral wreaths at Muktijoddha Shahid Minar at Dasani squire, by Bagerhat district administration, police administration, Awami League and its front organizations, Bagerhat Press Club, Bagerhat Bar Association and other political and socio-cultural organizations in commemorating of those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Independence of the mother land.
At 8-30 am a formal march past was held in the local Shaikh Helaluddin stadium where the Police, Ansars, VDP, Scouts, BNCC, Rovers, Girls’ Guides, students of different educational institutions took part in the march past and displayed various physical performances. Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagehat ceremonially hoisted the national flag at the stadium and took the salute of the participants. Dr. Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and President Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Awami League and Pankaj Cahandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat were present in the march past ceremony.
Later the district administration accorded reception to the freedom fighters and the members of the martyred families at the stadium. The other highlights of the day’s programmes were special prayers in the mosque, temples and churches, supply of improved diets to the orphans in the orphanages, patients in hospitals and prisoners in the jail, illumination, fancy foot ball game, cultural functions.
Sonargaon ( Narayanganj) Correspondent reports: The Independence Day was celebrated with joy and enthusiasm at Sonargaon Upazila in Narayanganj on Tuesday.
The day was started through 31 – gun salute. Upazila Administration, freedom fighters, local Awami League, Chhatra League, various educational institutions and social, cultural organisations, placed wreaths at the at Independence monument at Shaheed Majnu Park.
On this occasion, Upazila Administration organised a programme with the participation of students of different educational institutions at the Sheikh Russell Stadium where parade and display exhibition were held.
Local MP Liaquat Hossain Khoka, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Anjan Kumar Sarkar, Sonargaon Police Station OC Moniruzzaman, Acting President of Upazila Awami League Shamsul Islam Bhuiyan, Fish Officer Mahmuda Akhter, Agriculture Officer Monira took part in Independence Day programme and award distribution at Sheikh Russel Stadium. Akhter, Upazila Engineer Ali Haider Khan, Secondary Education Officer Saiful Ahmed Syndrome, Education Officer Nikhil Chandra Biswas and others were also present at the programme.
Dupchanchia (Bogura) Correspondent says: The 48th Independence and National Day was celebrated vowing afresh to take the country towards prosperity with the Liberation War spirit under Dupchanchia Upazila of Bogura district on Tuesday.
Different socio-cultural and political organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes on the occasion singing National anthem ‘Amar Sonar Bangla’ simultaneously across the upazila.
The national flag was also hoisted atop government and private buildings while the government and semi-government buildings and other public places has illuminated on the auspicious occasion.
The speakers said in a discussion meeting, organized by upazila administration, after the nine-month War of Liberation with the supreme sacrifices of three million people and at the cost of chastity of two lakh women, Bangladesh achieved its cherished independence on December 16, 1971.
Special prayers is also offered at all mosques, temples, churches and other places of worship across the area seeking divine blessings for the eternal peace of the departed souls of Father of the Nation, four national leaders, martyrs of the War of Liberation and all other patriotic sons of the soil.
Newly elected Upazila chairman Alhaj Fazlul Haque, upazila nirbahi officer SM Zakir Hssain, municipalitymayor Belal Hossain , president of Dupchanchia press club Golam Faruq, secretary KM Belal, journalis Emdadul Haque, AKM Zahangir Alaom, Baharam Hossain, Saju Mondal, Firoz Hossain, Ramendranath poddar were present in the function among others.
Gouripur( Mymensingh) Correspondent reports: The Independence Day was observed in Gouripur Upazila under Mymensingh district with much enthusiasm and fresh pledge to build more prosperous and developed country on Tuesday.
The beginning of the Independence Day started at 5: 57 am in the early morning with a 31-gun salute, Freedom Fighter Nazim Uddin Ahmed MP, Farjana Karim ,UNO of Gouripur Upazila , Mayor Syed Rafiqul Islam as well as councilors of Gouripur Pourashava and other officials of the upazila administration and the police department placed floral wreaths on the monument Bijoy-71 at Bangabandhu Chattar of the upazila town.
People from all walks of life and activists of political, cultural and professional organisations, institutions and. clubs, such as Gouripur Pourashava, Gouripur Thana, Gouripur Press Club, Gouripur Sangbadik Oikkay Forum, Gouripur Reporters Club, Gouripur Govt. College, Gouripur Women College, Govt. Technical School and College, Gouripur R.K.Govt. High school, Gouripur Pilot Girls High School, Nurul Amin Khan High School, Chader Hat Agradut Niketon, Govt.Textile Vocational Institute also placed floral wreaths at the monument Bijoy-71 and paid homage to the war heroes.
