Staff Reporter :
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has prevented an attempt by a fresh batch of Rohingyas from entering the country.
A boat carrying six Rohingyas tried to cross the Hila Nayapara border early on Saturday, reports our Cox’s Bazar Correspondent quoting BGB Teknaf-2 Battalion Deputy Chief Shariful Islam Jomaddar.
They were sent back to Myanmar through the same route, the BGB official said.
“No new Rohingyas will be allowed to enter. BGB is on the alert to repel any trespassing,” said Shariful Islam Jomaddar.
A special patrol team detained the six Rohingyas amongst whom three were women and three were children, said the BGB sources.
Even 28 Rohingyas so far have been stopped from entering Bangladesh from Myanmar’s Rakhine, they said.
Meanwhile, Teknaf Leda Camp Chairman Mohammad Alam said that the Rohingyas were still trying to cross the border due to the hard life they are facing in Myanmar.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Rabiul Hasan said that these attempts to trespass through the border happen every now and then and hence the law enforcers are on the alert.
According to Amnesty International, more than 7,50,000 Rohingya refugees, mostly women and children, have fled Myanmar and arrived in Bangladesh after Myanmar forces launched a crackdown on the minority Muslim community in August 2017, being the figure of the persecuted people now more than 11 lakh.
