Staff Reporter :The BNP-led 20-party alliance has called a fresh spell of countrywide 72-hour hartal from today (Sunday) alongside the ongoing blockade programme, protesting ‘arrest of BNP Joint-Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed’ and demanding fresh polls under a non-party government system. Beginning at 6:00am, the shutdown will continue till 6:00am on Wednesday.BNP’s another Joint-Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu, on behalf of the 20-party alliance, in a statement on Saturday announced the hartal. Bulu now new spokesman of the BNP in view of Salahuddin’s missing.Bulu called upon the leaders and workers of the 20-party alliance to observe the hartal spontaneously. The alliance already enforced six consecutive spells of hartal across the country on all working days since February 1. The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations are being held on Fridays and Saturdays due to shutdowns.Bulu protested the comments of Awami League Joint-General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif in reaction to the statement at a press conference of Khaleda Zia. Hanif delivered controversial comments regarding Khaleda Zia’s speech, Bulu said.
