Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday urged all freedom fighters (FFs) to work in unison to ensure his party’s win against anti-liberation forces in the next general elections.
“All the freedom fighters should be united to uproot the evil forces of fundamentalism from the country…I urge all of you to work in unison under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to defeat the anti-liberation forces in the next parliament polls,” he said, speaking at the representative meeting of FFs at the Mahanagar Natyamancha auditorium here.
Muktijuddher Chetona Bastabayan Mancha organized the meeting with its President and Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan in the chair.
Liberation War Affairs Minister Advocate AKM Mozammel Haque, Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, Chairman of Standing Committee on Liberation War Affairs Ministry Chairman Captain (Retd) AB Tajul Islam and Muktijoddha Sangsad former Chairmen Major General (Retd) Helal Morshed and Kabir Ahmed Khan addressed the meeting as special guests.
Quader said, “Our enemies are not weak. They are united. If they can unite, why not we?…We should work in unison to make Prime minister Sheikh Hasina victorious in the next polls to save Bangladesh, independence and the freedom fighters.”
The AL General Secretary said the country will turn into the ground of terrorism if BNP comes in power only for one day.
He said blueprint elections like in 2001 will not be held again on the soil of Bangladesh. “You (FFs) should remain alert and united to resist their evil efforts,” he added.
Referring to those talking against the Liberation War, Mozammel Haque said their mouth should be stopped forever.
He said all assets of war criminals should be confiscated following their conviction by the court. He also urged all the freedom fighters to work together for the victory of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the next general elections.
Hasanul Haque Inu said BNP’s founder Ziaur Rahman rehabilitated the war criminals after the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia has strengthened them further.
He said they (BNP) don’t believe in democracy. So, they always want to save the war criminals, militants and anti-liberation forces, he added.
Inu, also the President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, said the problems would not be solved unless the government bans Jamaat-e-Islami. BNP is a poisonous tree and this party is the producer of militants, he added.
Shajahan Khan said people should identify the children of war criminals to take actions against them as the independence of Bangladesh is not safe in their hand.
The meeting was also addressed by Muktijoddha Sangsad Vice Chairmen Ismat Kadir Gama, Salah Uddin Ahmed, Major (Retd) Walkar Hassan and General Secretary Abdul Malek Mian, among others.
Later, a mass signature campaign was inaugurated to create public opinion in favour of the six-point demand of Muktijuddher Chetona Bastabayan Mancha.
