A NEWS report carried by an English daily on Monday depicted how our children who are suffering from exam phobia appear in too many exams in their primary and secondary education levels. Children are to face four high-stake examinations – in Class V, VIII, X and XII – before they complete secondary education, let alone the routine internal school exams. Primary and Secondary schools and institutions regularly hold mid-term and yearly exams. Thus the students are being over-burdened with unusual exam stress, which ultimately destroys the creative potentials of young minds. This has been simply making the educationists, parents, guardians, teachers and students worried about the future of our coming generation(s). They demanded the immediate scrap of such faulty exam mania that cripples the junior citizens.
While education generally aims to spread knowledge among the people, and thus provide an opportunity of building self-confidence, but unfortunately our education system is now just only confined in results, not the knowledge or skills that can help one to be competent for himself and the society as well. We just evaluate a student by his result, not the knowledge he learned. This result oriented education system has already itself emerged as a burden to the nation. Recently introduced PSC and JSC exams are thus provoking a further mental agony not only to students, but the guardians, teachers and the whole nation in general ultimately started to scuffle with these new education epidemics.
Surprisingly, policy makers seem nonchalant to heed to the outcry of the experts who are dead against any kind of mental anxiety of the children. The kids should learn through enjoyment, but now they are becoming the tools of exam experiments due to the whims of some wishful thinkers. A guardian, by profession a university teacher, recently termed them ‘the serial child killers’- the people who have initiated the PSC examination, contravening the education policy. Some even said, this is a plan to create a merit-less brain washed future generation who will not be able to save the freedom or protect the sovereignty of the country. Some even blamed it a plot of the pro-Moscow leftists and radical socialists embedded in the administrations who are assumed to be guilty in the question paper leakages. The certificates for PSC and JSC by this time have been proved to be even more worthless than the so-called PhD credentials given to some name building politicians.
We advise the government to stop dubious methods of merit evaluation and immediately scrap anti-children PSC and JSC examinations. It should not be ethical to put through the children in malicious competition at a very tender age. Rather, they deserve an environment of equal harmony. They should not grow up in a narrow space of enmity or hostility to show their intellectual ability by useless competition.
