Speakers at a protest rally said on Monday that free press is not possible without ensuring free atmosphere.
Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) organized the rally in front of the National Press Club demanding release of Ruhul Amin Gazi, former President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ).
Speakers alleged that the government has arrested Ruhul Amin Gazi only for choking media.
They complained of oppressing of journalists due to lack of rules of law in the country.
As a result, 42 journalists have been killed including Sagar and Meherun Runi, in this regime.
They asked all to be united for establishing rights of journalists.
BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said in the programme, this is a regime of oppressions, tortures, enforced disappearances, killing and plundering.
Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, AL government failed to vaccinate citizens as a result many people have died of covid-19.
Kader Gani Chowdhury, President of the DUJ presided over the programme.
He said, the government has killed democracy as a result there were no freedom of media now.
Daily Nayadiganta Editor Alamgir Mohiuddin, former President of DUJ poet Abdul Hai Sikder and Elahi Newaz Khan Saju, General Secretary of DUJ Shahidul Islam, BFUJ Senior Vice-President Modabber Hossain, Organizing Secretary Khurshid Alam, Former DUJ General Secretary Sardar Farid Ahmed, Former Vice-President Amirul Islam Kagoji, DUJ Vice-President Shahin Hasnat, Basir Jamal and Rashedul Haque, among others, addressed the meeting.
