The High Cour (HC) on Thursday asked Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP) to handover possession of Khilgaon Shishu Park to Dhaka North City Corporation within three months.
The court at the same time directed the government to build a modern Shishu Park thereon in one year.
The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Md Badruzzaman delivered the judgement after hearing a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers
Association (BELA) relating to the government’s failure and to protect the Shishu Park which is situated at block-B in Khilgaon area from encroachment.
BELA’s lawyer Syeda Rizwana Hasan told the reporters, Ansar and VDP have been occupying the Shishu Park for eight years.
The HC observed in its judgement that occupation of such a public land is contradictory to the law and the Constitution of the country, Rizwana said.
