Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Professor Golam Rahman underscored the need for ensuring free flow of information to increase transparency and accountability at every level of state machinery.
“If accountability and transparency increase at all levels of state machinery, corruption will reduce, good governance will be established and democracy will be strengthened,” he said this on Thursday while speaking at a view-exchange with senior journalists of different media at Information Commission conference room.
The commission organized the meeting for the evaluation of plans and programmes of the Information Commission.
Information Commissioner Nepal Chandra Sarker, BTV Deputy Director General (programme) Surath Kumar Sarker, RTV chief executive officer (CEO) Syed Ashiq Rahman, Channel 24 NCA editor Rahul Raha, ATN Bangla CEO Z E Manun, NTV chief news editor Zahirul Alam, Cannel I news editor Jahid Newaj Khan, Maasranga TV head of news Rezaunul Haque, among others, joined it.
Prof Golam Rahman said some 25,000 information officers are being imparted training on Right to Information Act by phases while meetings are being organized at different educational institutions at upazila level to let the rural people know about the act.
