Fraudsters stolen Tk 20.60 lakh: BB

Staff Reporter :Fraudsters have stolen Tk 20.60 lakh from the ATM booths of four private commercial banks after copies information of 36 card holders.The criminals set up skimming gadgets at the four ATM booths of Eastern Bank Limited, United Commercial Bank Limited and the City Bank Limited to filch data from cards used in the booths. Shuvankar Shaha, an Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank (BB), came up with the disclosure at a meeting with the heads of card division of commercial banks held at the BB headquarters in the city on Wednesday.According to him, like various government agencies, BB also started investigating the recently ATM frauds in Dhaka, in which cardholders lost about Tk 20.60 lakh.”The fraudsters used skimming devices at the ATM booths to read data from the debit cards used in the booths. They later cloned the cards using the copied data and steal money from the cardholders’ account,” he added.The criminals copied cardholders’ data of Eastern Bank Limited, United Commercial Bank Limited, City Bank Limited and Mutual Trust Bank Limited. Primary investigation conducted by the BB found that over 200 card users had their data copied from four ATM booths last week.
