A fraud gang is snatching money from cross sectiory of people, such as industrialist, bankers, bureaucrats and people’s representatives by using Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) name.
Moreover, at least 10 hoax groups are active across the country for extorting from the people by using ACC, the anti-graft watchdog source said.
ACC sources said, almost every day ACC has received a significant number of allegations over the fraud gang activities. ACC intelligence had arrested about one dozen of fraud gang members in last four years.
Nazrul Islam alias Nayem had demanded advertisements from different organizations for ACC magazine by using former ACC Commissioner Aminul Islam pad.Later in 2019 April Nayem was caught by hand with another fake ACC official Khorshed Alam Khan.
After that Nazrul Islam got bail and again started extortion activities by using ACC address. In August 2020 Nazrul Islam alias Nayem was again arrested with another fake ACC official Modabber and got bail. Interestingly, Nayem did not leave his indecent activities and for third time in July 2021 got arrested with his wife for same allegation.
Not just Nazrul, there are at least 10 artifice rins active in the country. According to ACC intelligence information, they got about 50 complaints in a month. ACC started drive to find out such fraud ring.
On Monday, Jahangir Hossain was arrested with a fake identity card while accepting a money in the name of ACC identity from a UP chairman. He was arrested on the basis of intelligence information.
Last Wednesday, a businessman and a relative of a former secretary of the ACC filed a complaint that someone had demanded a bribe in the name of an ACC official. The detectives have already started the work about the allegation.
Md Shamsul Alam, deputy director of ACC said, few fraud gangs are using ACC’s name for shatching money from different people. We have got some complaints on the issue.
Shamsul Alam said ACC’s stand is very clear that there is no chance for extorting by using ACC’s name. Our intelligence groups have already started drive against these fraud rings.
