An allegation of fraud attempt by cloning the official mobile number of Upazila Nirbahi Officer has been found. The incident took place in Bhanguraupazila of Pabna on Thursday night. Upazila Nirbahi Officer filed a GD with Bhangura Police Station at night on the day.
It has been reported that the Bhangura Upazila Nirbahi Officer, in his identity, demanded extortion from his government phone for allocating laptops to the heads of some educational institutions. The head of the organization contacted UNO to find out that he had not called anyone.
Muhammad Anwar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Bhangura Police Station confirmed the incident and said that the fraudsters may have cloned the UNO’s phone. However, UNO has lodged a GD with the police station on the night. Police are trying to track the phone.
UNO Syed Ashrafujjaman said, “Some of the heads of the educational institutions became suspicious after realizing that it was not my voice after receiving the phone call.” After that they informed me about the matter by the mobile phone. However, no one fell into the trap of fraudsters. He advised all concerned in the upazila to alert of this fraudulent cycle.
