A five-member delegation led by Dr Erik Orsenna, an eminent writer, scientist and environment activist of the France Academy, France called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Tuesday at the latter’s office of the university. Other members of the delegation were Olivier Litvine, Director of the Alliance Francaise, Yves Marre, Managing Director of the Taratari Shipyard Ltd and Emilie Chassagnard, Cultural Attachee of the Embassy of France in Bangladesh.
Pro Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University Prof Dr Khondoker Mukaddem Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences of DU Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, Director of the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies Prof Dr Mahbuba Nasreen and professor of the Department of Water Resources Engineering of BUET Dr Umme Kulsum Navera were also present on the occasion.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interest specially possibilities of strengthening ongoing collaborative academic and research programs on “Environment, Climate Change & Disaster Management issues” jointly being conducted by the University of Dhaka and France Academy.
They also discussed possibilities of arranging international workshops, seminars, and conferences in this regard jointly by the two institutions.
Vice-Chancellor thanked the guests for their visit to and keen interest in academic activities of Dhaka University.
