The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to three accused in a case filed for forgery over the design of 23-storeyed FR Tower in Dhaka’s Banani.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after hearing three separate petitions filed by the accused seeking bail in the case.
The accused are: FR Tower leaseholder Syed Md Hossain Imam Faruque, Rajuk’s
former inspector Md Aurangzeb Siddique Nannu and its former deputy director (Estate) Md Sawkat Ali.
A Dhaka court granted them bail in August and September in connection with the forgery case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
But on November 5, the High Court Bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam stayed bail of three accused in the case. The court also asked the accused to surrender before the lower court concerned in seven days.
Then the 3 accused filed three separate petitions with the Appellate Division against the High Court order.
A devastating fire in the 23-storeyed building in the capital’s Banani left at least 25 people dead and 73 others injured in March.
Later, the ACC filed a case with Gulshan Police Station against three accused on charge of forgery over the design of FR Tower and violating building code in constructing the high-rise. A Dhaka court on Nov 17 sent the three accused to jail after their surrender following a HC order.
Advocate AM Amin Uddin who appeared in the court on behalf of the accused said his clients will get released from jail after the SC order reaches to the jail authorities.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the case.
