A court of Dhaka yesterday (Wednesday) sentenced four people to 15-year imprisonment each for possession of yaba tablets.
The convicts are Md Mukhtar Hossain from Narayanganj, Md Mizanur Rahman Babu from Chattogram, Md Sohel Ahmed, from Bagerhat and Md Joni from Dhaka.
Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Robiul Alam delivered the verdict in presence of the convicts. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each.
According to the case statement, police detained a covered-van in front of a CNG filling station in Jatrabari’s Kajla on October 17 in 2016.
Later, the law enforcers seized 600,000 yaba tablets worth Tk 180 million. Police recovered the consignment that had arrived in Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf.
